The VP Says: You're No Longer Worried

(Image from the movie:  Marie Antoinette)

In a "let them eat cake" moment, Vice President Joe Biden declared Americans are no longer worried about the economy

Really?

Aren't you glad to hear that your fears are unfounded?

But Biden wasn't the only one to put his foot in his mouth (something he's done repeatedly these past four years--and counting).  Our newly minted Secretary of State praised our diplomatic efforts in Kyrzakhstan--a country that doesn't exist

A friend who happens to be familiar with the US State Deptartment had this insight to offer:

Well, at least he didn't refer to the country as "Icky-stan" (that's the general shorthand used when referring collectively to the Kyrgyz, Uzbek, Kazakh, Tadjik, and Turkmen - istans). That probably wouldn't have gone down well at all.

I told this individual a suggestion should be submitted about the need to focus more attention on the current situation in Bongolesia.

(Image from the Bongolesia wargaming blog)

And if gaffes from our political ruling class isn't enough, there's what Comrade Karla calls "The Madness of King Hagel."  Who was confirmed today as Secretary of Defense

This should make Ahmadinejad happy.

DHS's Buying Sprees

First there was the story of DHS buying armored vehicles, like the one pictured above.  So far I haven't come across anything official posing as a reasonable explanation for what the Free Republic blog calls the DHS Panzer Division.  Meanwhile, MilitaryPhotos.net has a series pics on the DHS AFVs.

Then there's the story of DHS buying vast quantities of ammunition.  This was explained as business as usual and this may indeed be the case.

But now it's come to light that DHS is buying/has bought "No Hesitation" Targets, that look like this:

No matter what the explanation is, official or otherwise, this is deeply disturbing.

I first heard about this over the weekend when a friend of mine sent me this article from The Examiner. Chris Muir rolled-in on this today, in his Day By Day comic strip

DHS to some degree or another, increasingly looks upon our nation's citizens as the enemy, like these folks here...

...or this gentleman here:

I never bought the game Paranoia, but maybe I should.  I could certainly use the laugh and maybe it will prepare me for what may lay ahead.

Vets Gun Rights Under Fire

The blogosphere exploded over stories of veterans being told by the VA, that they're too incompetent to own firearms.

This issue actually cropped up a few months ago, during the defense budget bill. Most of the material I've found on line is rather inflammatory, but here's an even-toned synopsis about this from The Blaze.  The story is still unfolding, so stay tuned.

Choice Statements

I can't think of anything to add to Mr. Allie's cartoon.  What gets me is that 53% of our country's voting population actually believe these statements.

Suggested "Weapons of Choice"

Ealier in the week, the Colorado legislature voted to make college campuses in the Rocky Mountain state "gun free zones."  During the debate, several outrageous "assertions" were made, which Michelle Malkin rolls-in on

I'm surprised it wasn't suggested to throw feces, like monkeys do, at an attacker.

The "helpful hints" turned out to be a lightning rod for the University of Colorado campus elders and they've pulled the tip sheet.

However, not to be outdone in the less-than sound advice department, freshman lawmaker Joe Salazar, suggested women were too emotionally unstable to be wielding firearms.

This outrageous comment even drew the ire of famous liberals, like Rosanne Barr, who suggested women be trained to make clean headshots.

Normally, I disagree with Rosanne on just about everything she says.  But in this case, I happily make an exception.

However, the battle over our 2nd Amendment Rights continues unabatted.

Joe Biden wants to limit citizens to two shotgun shells--fired in the air to scare off intruders/murderers/rapist/looters.

Fortunately, 2nd Amendment advocates are fighting back.  The NRA is targeting gun-grabbing politicians up for re-election.  Membership and fundraising for the NRA has taken a quantum leap in the face of possible gun control measures.

I like what Greg Gutfeld said on The Five the other day: Something to the effect that it should be the attacker who does the peeing and puking.  (Sorry, I can't find a direct quote or video link).

Gun Grabbing Effort in the Evergreen State

Last week, while I was on duty dealing with asteroid fly-bys, meteor strikes and a radioactive waste leak, the Elders of Olympia made their move to implement gun control.

I found this out while scrolling through Facebook earlier today.  Apparently, Senate Bill 5737 calls on county sheriffs to inspect the homes of "assault weapons" owners.

Hmm.  I wonder if anyone's inspected the homes of any of Egypt's Muslim Brotherhood.

Somehow, I doubt it.

Taking a Stand on Our 2nd Amendment Rights

I'm glad to see the "gun lobby" is pushing back against the gun grabbers.

First, the NRA rolled out it's anti-gun control commercial.  Although from what I've read I doubt the article's claim that polls "...show a majority of Americans support banning high-capacity magazines."

Smells like selective polling to me.

Despite what "the polls show," some gun companies are also taking a stand, terminating all sales to government agencies enforcing strict gun control laws.  As of now, this is primarily aimed at The Empire State.

Full Disclosure:  I am a member of the NRA.

Cosmic Coincidences?

Not only did North Korea conduct a nuke test prior to Our Dear Leader's State of the Union Address, but the Russians decided to dispatch two bombers for a fly-by over Guam

A "cosmic coincidence", like the meteor strike and asteriod fly-by that occurred yesterday?

Not likely.

The despots of the world sense weakness in the Obama Administration.

The friend who sent us the article had this to say about the "Fruits of Reset:"

The really, really big deal in the articles I've read is they all say they were "armed with nuclear cruise missiles." I personally think this is not true, and it would be essentially impossible to determine that visually to distinguish from conventional cruise missiles. However, if it were true, it would violate the 1991 Gorby-Bush deal on tactical nukes and bomber activities, would be a tremendous escalation and the biggest smack in the face since the Cold War.
Whatever the case, this is huge and, as usual, our illiterati rulers are too stupid to understand it or react appropriately.

While Comrade Karla Sr had this to say:

Really, the implications are disturbingly close to home. I’ve become fairly apolitical in recent months but I can’t imagine something like this happening in quite this way prior to our present administration.

But even with a stronger defense stance and more coherent foreign policy, America has another problem to deal with...

SOTU Post-Game Wrap Up

I didn't watch last night's State of the Union (SOTU) Address.  From what I've read today, I didn't miss anything exceptional, other than the usual political doublespeak.

Obama spouted numerous claims, few of which passed the fact check smell test.  Guy Benson gives us the Top 10 Quotes (along with his rebuttals)

The one word I see the most in describing last night's SOTU, it's this:  Non-conciliatory.  But S.E. Cupp thought Obama's speech was more schizophrenic.  While John Stossel wishes the president--any president--would be honest and plain-speaking in a real state of the union.

Pre-SOTU Shennanigans

Tonight Our Dear Leader will be giving his State of the Union (SOTU) Address.

But how does John Q. Public feel about the direction Obama has been steering the country?

According to Gallup, via Brietbart, most Americans dissapprove of Obama on nearly every issue.

According to the article, only on defense issues did most folks agree with Obama.  However, that was before N. Korea detonated a nuke

Ah, remember when Our Dear Leader promised he'd eliminate the North Korean nuke program?

If I were on the Nobel Prize Committee, I'd ask Obama for the Peace Prize he was given to be returned.

Can you say:  Epic Fail?

Our Dissinterested Dear Leader

John Bolton rolls-in on the Obamunist National Security team and Our Dear Leader's lack of leadership in his Benghazi Bungle article.

Of course, since the terrorist attack the lamestream media has been, well, lame about the whole scandal.

I never read All the President's Men, nor watched the movie adaptation.  Now, because the media has degenerated into something akin to Orwell's Ministry of Truth, I have no intention of wasting my time with either version.

A few conservative-ish outlets continue to fan the political flames.  A similar article appeared in the WSJ, about our Absentee Commander in Chief

Hollow US Military in a Dangerous World

The US Army is preparing for sequestration by reducing training levels, except for units bound for Afghanistan or S. Korea.

So what's the rest of the world going to do, while Our Dear Leader hollows-out our military?

Well, China's ramping up its own "Topgun" training to dominate the skies.

Meanwhile, the "Arab Spring" continues to provide fertilizer for jihad.  Rand Paul warns of a long...irregular confrontation...with radical Islam.

Yeah.  I'm shocked! Shocked! To hear such a "revelation."

However, the impending violence won't merely be an us-vs-them conflict.  LtC. Joel Rayburn warns the whole region may be engulfed, as Sunnis settle accounts with Shias in the Coming War in the Middle East.

(Image from the graphic novel 300)

But before we look to the dire future, VDH points out we're not the first nation to "Mission Accomplished"/"(#1 Badguy) Dead."

No matter how many drone strikes Our Dear Leader authorizes, the world is becoming more and more dangerous.  So much for the Nobel Peace Prize...

Drone Strikes Good...

...under Our Dear Leader.  But waterboarding under Dubya--bad.

How does Obama get away with doing things his predecessor couldn't?

Apparently, there's a memo saying its okay to kill Americans who joined the ranks of Al Qaeda.

That, and of course, the "unbiased" coverage of the lamestream media...

Comrade Karla Sr. asked a few good questions:

Does this mean it’s all right to say, ‘why don’t they just shoot that mad major’ from Ft Hood? Why bother with the judicial process? There’s no question about his guilt. Is it that we don’t want to hurt Islamic feelings throughout the world? Or is it that some of us went to a different school at a different time?

And just in case you find yourself targeted by a Presidential Drone Strike, be sure to follow these instructions...

America's Dad?

(Image: Another "Divine" Newsweek cover)

Back in November, Jamie Foxx declared Obama to be our lord and savior.  Not to be outdone, Chris Rock says that everyone should listen to Obama, specifically regarding gun control, because he's the dad of America.

Normally that would be a demotion from "lord and savior."  But no matter what the title, Obama's cult of personality continues.

Even when Obama leaves office, liberals will seek out a new Dear Leader to provide for them.  Like maybe...

I'd Be Outraged Too...

...if my 5-year old was suspended for wielding a Hello Kitty bubble gun.

I came across this story from my writer friend Piper Bayard.

I loved her comment about how we're becoming a fear-based society instead of being a courage-based one.

So true.

Fashion Tips for Spooks

Like something from an episode of What Not To Wear, some of the men and women of the Defense Intelligence Agency were subjected to a seminar on fashion advice.

I wouldn't say this was "highly offensive," like the DIA Director did, but certainly a waste of employees' time.  Fortunately, there was no mention (yet?) of any taxpayer money being wasted on this.

Maybe its someone's attempt to transform the spy kids from something like this...

(Image from one of the Austin Powers movies)

...to something like this...

(Image from the movie Johnny English)

...neither of which will impact operational effectiveness.

Chaulk Up Another One

Another botched operation by the ATF.

First under this administration there was the Fast and Furious gunwalking scandal

Now, there's calls for an investigation over a series of blunders made by the ATF's Milwaukee Department

According to Comrade Karla, this isn't anything new:

This agency has been FUBAR for several decades now. I'm not surprised they are still setting new low standards.

Blogger's Note:

A friend of mine, cut and pasted an extensive article from the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel and sent it via e-mail.  Every time I try to log on to the paper's website, in order to provide a direct link, I get a virus alert.  After several attempts, I decided to go with what I have.
