Honoring Presidents Day

(Image found on:  Relatably Presidents Day 2014 Quotes)

I don't know if Lincoln really said or wrote this.
However, the quote certainly fits the voters' collective mood during this year's Presidential Election.

It seems like every holiday runs afoul of some PC Commissars.  And today is certainly no different.

Last week, San Diego city officials wanted to ban the "gender biased" phrase "Founding Fathers."

Keeping Up With Today's News

Anyone following this blog may notice that I don't post news stories every day.  In fact, it's been a week since my last blog post.  I'm not a full-time journalist, so keeping up with breaking news can be extremely difficult; especially when I'm busy with my own job, or maintaining my home, running errands, etc.

In other words, dealing with the usual mundane tasks in life that fill up any given day.

Another reason for a low post-count is that some stories aren't "buzz-worthy."  I like posting comments from my like-minded friends and while breaking news abounds, thanks to today's 24/7 news-cycle, reaction to many stories is:  "Meh."

Timing is another important factor.  After a day or two, most stories become "ancient history."  That is, unless the story "has legs" and people are still talking about it--like last year's oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico.

While I may not get to every story, every day, there doesn't seem to be any shortage on the ones that make my friends and I say "WTF!?"

Quote of the Day # 5

This one's about the A-10 "Warthog," arbuably the best tank-busting aircraft ever made.

Comrade Karla found this:

"The A-10 Warthog is neither a fighter, nor a bomber. Rather, it exists in a nether world of hypermasculine studliness, approached only by Leatherman tools and Skoal chewing tobacco."

Quote of the Day #4

"The difference between victory and failure was very often the willingness to see what had to be done, and to do it instantly and with all the strength at your disposal."

From: The Way to Glory, by David Drake (pg. 342).

Unfortunately today we talk about "exit strategy" instead of victory over our enemies. While President Bush's administration, may have over-extended our military by going into Iraq, at least he was willing to fight.

Meanwhile, President Obama's administration plans on calling it quits in Iraq by August 2010.

Nothing like telegraphing our intentions to our enemies:

Who ever heard of an "Exit Strategy Day" Celebration?

Not only are we pulling out of Iraq, but we're abandoning some of our nation's most stalwart allies in Central Europe. Apparently President Obama sent a secret letter to Moscow with the following deal: Help us get Iran to stop its nuclear program and we'll scrap the ballistic missile defense we were planning to install in Central Europe--and thus open to bullying by Russia.

So once again, Central Europe will be left to it's fate--just like in 1938.

Quote of the Day #3

Here's a flavorful way of describing some of the frustrations you might feel on your job:

"He [Lt. Daniel Leary] had enemies in the service; anybody did if his career wasn't as bland and colorless as tapioca pudding."

From: The Way to Glory, by David Drake, pg 180.

Tapioca Pudding: The favorite dessert of "pointy-haired bosses" everywhere.

Quote of the Day #2

FOX News just reported the latest Rasmussen Poll: Only 38% are in favor of the home foreclosure assistance bill.

45% of those polled are against it, while the rest aren't sure.

Most of my like-minded friends and I are against the bailout bonanza and it's socialistic repercussions.

In light of this, I found this quote from Thomas Jefferson to be appropriate:

I predict future happiness for Americans if they can prevent the government from wasting the labors of the people under the pretense of taking care of them.

Quote of the Day #1

"The society that separates its scholars from its warriors will have its thinking done by cowards and its fighting done by fools."

- Thucydides

Sadly, we've separated our scholars from our warriors about a generation ago.
