Heat Wave in Washington State

(Image from USA Today)

I haven't blogged about the weather here in WA State for a long time.

But now we're facing a Heat Wave with today's temperatures peaking near 90 degrees.

Then tomorrow through Monday (26-28 June), temperatures are forecast to be between 101-112 degrees.

Seattle hasn't seen temperatures like this since 2009...

...in fact, I did a quick post about--lost now, somewhere in the Station's archive.

(Jeez!  Have I been blogging for THIS long!?).

Anyway, the National Weather Service issued an Excessive Heat Warning for all of Washington State.

People from just about everywhere else in America make fun of us for being unable to "take the heat."

But out here in the Pacific Northwest, fewer homes are airconditioned, but there's a a lot more than there use to be.

No matter where you are in the US this summer--stay cool & hydrated.

False Prophet of the Year--2019

Last week amid Trump Impeachment Theatre and the UK's conservative landslide election victory, Time crowned Greta Thunberg Person of the Year.

Time's Person of the Year has a track record of controversy.  But this is the first time I can recall the magazine honoring a Biblical-style false prophet.

Not being one to rest on her laurels, Greta demanded world leaders be put world leaders against the wall if they don't collectively cave-in to her climatastrophe tantrums.

Not one to shy away from a confrontation, Out Grand Nagus tweeted that Little Miss How Dare You should "chill out."

Which of course triggered woketards like CNN's entire newsroom and former funnyman Jimmy Kimmel into defending their pint-sized Prophetess of Doom.

Which is probably what Trump had in mind all along.

What us normal human being see is a teenage girl, with mental and emotional issues being used as a political pawn and human shield by the adults handling her and supporting her.

Plus, unlike tactlessly attempting to drag Barron Trump into the political ring, Greta is a true-believing zealot.

What us like-minded folks also see is that climate alarmists and their woketard cheerleaders don't see the consequences of ill-thought-out policies are actually enacted.

Good luck, woketards in Tweeting what outrages you when the plug is pulled.

Racist Hurricane Racing Towards Miami

As the Sunshine State is bracing itself against Hurricane Irma, at least one conspiracy theorist and social justice whiner is working overtime to put their own spin on the impending storm.

Blogger Diogenes' Middle Finger passed along this gem on Facebook:

Hurricanes be racist y'all.

Comrade Karla wondered if this were a joke.  I told him I'm hoping the preponderance of the 7.2K reactions were "Wow!" (as in WTF?!) and "LOL!" (as in YGTBSM).

If this isn't a joke, then such astounding ignorance makes me want to scream.

Waking Up to Ashfall

For nearly 26 years, where ever I lived; I'd drive to the gym 3-6 days a week in the pre-dawn darkness in just about every weather condition imaginable (and sort-of safe to travel in).

You know, the whole Neither snow nor rain... spiel about nothing keeping me from my workouts.

Yesterday though, was the first time I drove through ash fall from one of the many wildfires burning up our Evergreen State.

While my wife was at work, where the ash fall and smoky haze were worse; she said it reminded her of the Mount St. Helens eruption.

The Seattle Times put a more mundane spin on our predicament:  Ash falls like snow as wildfire rage in the Pacific Northwest.

So while large chunks of real estate in Texas and Louisiana are still underwater due to Hurricane Harvey; Washington, Idaho, Montana and Oregon are tinder-dry and burning to a crisp.

KHQ-6 has a full list of wildfires burning in Washington, Idaho and Montana.

In the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey and with Hurricane Irma bearing down on Florida I'm not all that keen about praying for rain in a "be careful what you wish for" sort of way.

While Washington State isn't known for it's sunshiny beaches, we have gotten severe "nor'westers" in the past.

And:  Winter is coming.

Bi-Coastal Weather Woes

I've been off-duty, and off-line for nearly a week.  Which means I haven't been paying any attention to the daily dramedy surrounding Grand Nagus Trumpler.

I even unplug from local news when I'm off-duty, unless I happen to stumble across some all-caps headline.

Two nights ago, I attended our first quarterly training meeting, and was surprised to discover nearly a dozen counties in WA State are under a Flood Watch, while several rivers are under Flood Warnings.

Our weather woes are due to a perfect storm of warmer temperatures, heavy rain and mountain snowmelt.

Despite the rising waters, we're luckier here in the Pacific Northwest, than in the northeast where  Winter Storm Stella dumped more than three feet of snow in some places and caused 11 deaths.

For now, our biggest environmental concern is a crippled sewage treatment plant continues to pump untreated sewage into Puget Sound.

I'll get back to smelly aspects of domestic politics and foreign affairs as soon as I get caught up on what's going on.
